Blog Post: Day 1
Our
journey began at 3 am this morning when our whole group met up at the Sioux
Falls Airport. Our flight to Minneapolis took off at 5 am. Everything went
smooth for the most part. However, one of the students, Addie, had a damaged passport
and this was a bit of a hiccup. The airport let them fly to Minneapolis but
wouldn’t let them fly internationally. So Dr. Gonda and Addie landed in
Minneapolis with the rest of us and went directly to the United States Federal
Building, in order to attempt to get a passport reprinted today. It worked! Dr.
Gonda and Addie caught a flight to Atlanta at a later time, and met up with the
rest of the group before we took off to South Africa. The rest of the crew
stuck with our original flight time to Atlanta and spent most the day fighting
boredom in the airport. Other than a slightly turbulent landing in Atlanta,
things have been laid back for the majority of us. We welcomed back Addie and
Dr. Gonda with some cheering and hugs and are currently just waiting to board
the 15 hour flight to Johannesburg. Wish us luck and smooth travels!
